Gupi is a robotised guinea pig. Gupi is highly autonomous; he walks around in the house, avoiding obstacles thanks to sensors in its eyes. Gupi is smart enough to walk through a maze and remember the way out.
Gupi has a very interactive playing behaviour, if you don't play with him he becomes lonely and scared and he will go hiding in a dark place. Gupi can also hear you, and he will react to voices and sounds, depending on his mood. When Gupi is happy he will actually come running at you when you call him, but when he's scared he can't stand noise and will run away from it. When Gupi gets hungry you can feed him and recharge his batteries through his carrot. |

• 2003 (Sep) - Cutting Edge Toys release Gupi the Guinea Pig. It has 2 states of learning, makes 8 sounds and automonous movement with edge detection.
• 2004 (Oct) - Cutting Edge Toys release Gupi Version 2. The revised Gupi has 4 states of learning and makes 30 different sounds.
• 2005 (Jun) - Cutting Edge Toys discontinue Gupi V2 due to a battery charging issue. Many of the Gupis are recalled and production is stopped.
• 2006 (Sep) - Thumbs Up UK Ltd buy rights for Gupi and release Version 3. Various bugs have been fixed and new packaging is used.
