Analysis by ElectronicPets.org:
"Walkie Bits were released in 2005 in Japan by Tomy Takara. They were announced in 'Time Magazine' as the best invention of 2005 and are currently the smallest programmable pet ever invented.
The Walkie Bit shells are interchangeable and some extra ‘designer packs’ allowed the owner to customize the shells with varnish and even cakes. This meant that while the pint sized hero originally retailed for around £8, they quickly shot up in price due to the collectibility and when various editions became more rare. By the time Walkie Bits had stopped being manufactured there were around 50 different types. These ranged in price anywhere up to £150 for a gold edition that was given to shareholders of Takara on their 50th Anniversary.
Walkie Bits have the ability to walk, race, dance and sing. Each function can be activated by the touch of its shell. The walk and race functions are random, allowing the owner to race Walkie Bits without knowing which will win. The Walkie Bits can also be programmed to ‘dance’ to the beat which you tap on its shell.
Overall, Walkie Bits are a great pet if you can get one a couple at a reasonable price but without manufacture continuing, the likelihood of getting one cheap enough for general play is getting lower."
